THE ETOILE (1932) Like her sister ship LA BELLE POULE, the ETOILE was built at FECAMP in 1932 by the Normandy Yards to serve as an auxiliary to the Naval College. These vessels are based upon the well known Paimpol schooners, perform well under sail and make excellent sea boats. Both are based in BREST and, having survived the last war, they nearly always sail in company, manned by the students of the Naval College as part of their sail training. Under sail they can reach 10 knots in a good breeze and their handling qualities are closely related to a rational use of their canvas: excellent schooling for the young midshipmen. Overall length: 32.35 m - Beam: 7.10 m - Draught: 2.10 m - Sail area: 424 m2 - Displacement: 214 T.
