THE COTRE (1815 -1850) A 14-gun cutter. The English made an intensive use of these little ships as coasting vessels, pilot ships, privateers and smuggling vessels. The Royal Navy also used them for the repression of smuggling, as coast watchers and advice-boats. Some cutters took long trips, namely the PANDOUR which escorted the Bailif of Suffren to India.
