| Yellow fever vaccination certificates will be requested if you are arriving from affected countries or regions. Cholera vaccination is no longer required. There is no longer any risk of contracting malaria in Mauritius or Rodrigues. Health services are absolutely free in public hospitals but treatment in private clinics, against a fee, is preferable for visitors. Therefore visitors are advised to take a health insurance covering the period of their voyage. | |
| Airport and Port |
| The Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport at Plaisance in the South East of the island is the only airport. The airport offers many services like duty-free shops, banks, post office, restaurants and a bar. The only port is found in Port Louis. | |
| Immigration and customs |
| Passengers aged 16 years or above are
allowed to import duty-free products up to 250 gms of tobacco (individual
cigarettes and cigars), 2 litres of wine or beer, 1 litre of spirits,
250 ml of eau de toilette and 100 ml of perfume. Passengers traveling with plants, grains, flowers, fresh fruits or bulbs must hold an import permit from the Ministry of Agriculture. Introduction of sugar cane and invertebrate is prohibited. An import document and a health certificate from the country of origin are also asked on the introduction of animals and animal by-products. Dogs and cats are subject to a six- month's quarantine. A departure tax of Rs(...) is levied at the airport. |

| Mauritius is four hours of Greenwich Meantime and three hours of mid European time. | |
| Currency |
| The Mauritian rupee (Rs) is the currency
of Mauritius. Coins of 5 cents, 20 cents, 50 cents, 1 rupee, 5 rupees
and 10 rupees are used. Notes are in cuttings of Rs 25, Rs 50, Rs 100, Rs 200, Rs 500, Rs 1000 and Rs 2000. There are no restrictions on foreign currency, traveller's cheques and other banking instruments. Credit cards are also widely accepted everywhere on the island. |
